BBL-VFF WORLD PEACE BREATH MEDITATION

This, Beloveds, is the 8th Anniversary of our monthly gatherings for World Peace using Bursting the Body Light - Violet Flame of Forgiveness. It was 8 years ago that I was having a dickens of a time coming out of senility and intense illness. These breath meditations were the answer to our prayers. It was these breath meditations that gave me my mind back and a turn around to better health. Thank you Babaji for these gifts of Healing Power and Light.

Our group spoke about misunderstanding, anxiety and the limiting conditions of Humanity’s Earthwalk. We also talked about learning and choosing to be in decisions of No Sympathy...getting to that place of No Pity which Don Juan encouraged Carlos Castaneda to find to become an impeccable warrior…only then can we fully appreciate, receive and own the magnificence of Life’s offerings.

Getting ourselves to Believe in Unlimited Harmony and Abundance with Source, we came up with the following Intent for World Peace: ”WILLINGNGESS TO TRUST AND AWAKEN TO THE RECEIPT OF OUR UNLIMITED GOOD.”

Please join us the first Sunday of each month. We gather at 3 pm rocky mountain time, we take time to share, and breathe using BBL -VFF breath/meditation and then we usually have a fabulous baked goodie. You can join us wherever you are with BBL - VFF breath/ meditation. Bursting the Body Light - Violet Flame of Forgiveness. Victory to us! Jai Ma!

**Our next World Peace breath meditation: Sunday September 2nd, 2007 / Using BBL-VFF Breath Meditation to INTENT WORLD PEACE where there is willingness. Please join us from wherever you are.

ARE YOU WILLING TO CHANGE?
by Louise L. Hay

"I am willing to change."

I know -- you want everybody and everything else to change. Your mother, father, boss, friend, sister, lover, landlord, neighbor, minister, or government official must change so that your life can be perfect. It doesn't work that way. If you want change in your life, then you are the one who must do the changing. When you change, then all the other people in your world will change in relation to you.

Are you willing to change?

If you are willing, then you can create the life you say you want. All you have to do is change some thoughts and release some beliefs. Sound simple? It is. However, it's not always easy. We will explore some of the things you may have beliefs about in different areas of your life. If you have positive beliefs, then I urge you to keep them and expand upon them. If you find negative beliefs, then I'll help you let them go.

My life is a good example of what can happen when you change your thinking. I went from being a battered and abused child who grew up in poverty, with little self-esteem and many problems, to a well-known woman who's able to help others. I no longer live in pain and suffering. I've created a wonderful life for myself. You can do it, too.

I encourage you to be gentle with yourself. Every new choice you make is like planting a seed in your new mental garden. The seeds may take time to germinate and grow. Remember, when you plant a seed, you don't produce an instant apple tree. Similarly, you may not always get instant results from doing this work.

I would like to review the basic beliefs that support my philosophy. You may remember them from You Can Heal Your Life.

What I Believe

Life is very simple. What we give out, we get back. I believe that everyone, myself included, is responsible for every experience in our lives, the best and the worst. Every thought we think is creating our future. Each one of us creates our experiences by the thoughts we think and the words we speak and the beliefs we hold.

Beliefs are ideas and thoughts that we accept as truth. What we think about ourselves and the world becomes true for us. What we choose to believe can expand and enrich our world. Each day can be an exciting, joyous, hopeful experience; or a sorrowful, limiting, and painful one. Two people living in the same world, with the same set of circumstances, can experience life so differently. What can transport us from one world to another? I'm convinced that it's our beliefs that do so. When we're willing to change our primary belief structures, then we may experience a true change in our lives.

Whatever your beliefs may be about yourself and the world, remember that they're only thoughts, and thoughts can be changed. You may not agree with some of the ideas that I'm about to explore. Some of them may be unfamiliar and frightening. Don't worry. Only those ideas that are right for you will become part of you.

Our subconscious mind accepts whatever we choose to believe. The Universal Power never judges or criticizes us. It only accepts us at our own value. If you accept a limiting belief, then it will become the truth for you. If you believe that you're too short, too fat, too thin, too tall, too smart, not smart enough, too rich, too poor, or incapable of forming relationships, Then those beliefs will become true for you. Remember that we're dealing with thoughts, and thoughts can be changed. We have unlimited choices about what we can think, and the point of power is always in the present moment.

What are you thinking in the present moment? Is it positive or negative? Do you want this thought to be creating your future?

When we were children, we learned about life and about ourselves from the reactions of the adults around us. Therefore, most of us have ideas about who we are that were merely someone else's opinions. And we have many rules about how life "should" be lived. If you lived with people who were unhappy, frightened, guilty, or angry, then you learned a lot of negative things about yourself and your world.

When we grow up, we have a tendency to re-create the emotional environment of our early home life. We also tend to recreate in our personal relationships the ones we had with our mother and father. If we were highly criticized or abused as children, then we will seek out those individuals in our adult life who will duplicate this behavior. If we were praised, loved, and encouraged as children, then we will re-create those patterns.

I do not encourage you to blame your parents. We are all victims of victims, and they couldn't teach you something that they didn't know. If your mother or father didn't know how to love themselves, it would have been impossible for them to teach you how to love yourself. They were coping as best they could with the information they had. Think for a minute about how they were raised. If you want to understand your parents more, I suggest that you ask them about their childhood.

Listen to not only what they're telling you, but notice what happens to them while they're speaking. What is their body language like? Can they make eye contact with you? Look into their eyes and see if you can find their inner child. You may only see it for a split second, but it may reveal some valuable information.

I believe that we choose our parents. I believe that we've decided to incarnate on this earth in a particular time and space. We've come here to learn specific lessons that will advance us on our spiritual, evolutionary pathway. I believe that we choose our sex, color, and country, and then we search for the particular set of parents who will enhance our spiritual work in this lifetime.

All that we're dealing with is a thought, and a thought can be changed. No matter what the problem is, your experiences are outer effects of inner thoughts. Even self-hatred is only a thought you have about yourself. This thought produces a feeling, and you buy into that feeling. However, if you don't have the thought, you won't have the feeling. Thoughts can be changed. Change the thought, and the feeling most go.

The past has no power over us it doesn't matter how long we've been in a negative pattern. We can be free in this moment.

Believe it or not, we do choose our thoughts. We may habitually think the same thought over and over so that it doesn't seem as if we're choosing the thought. But we did make the original choice. We can refuse to think certain thoughts. How often have you refused to think a positive thought about yourself? You can also refuse to think a negative thought about yourself.

The innermost belief for everyone I've worked with is always, "I'm not good enough!" Everyone I know or have worked with is suffering from self- hatred or guilt to one degree or an other. "I'm not good enough, I don't do enough, or I don't deserve this," are common complaints. But for whom are you not good enough? And by whose standards?

I find that resentment, criticism, guilt, and fear cause most of the problems in ourselves and in our lives. These feelings come from blaming others and not taking responsibility for our own experiences. If we're all responsible for everything in our lives, then there's no one to blame. Whatever is happening "out there" is only a mirror of our own inner thinking.

I do not condone other people's poor behavior, but it's our own belief system that attracts this behavior to us. There's some thought in you that attracts people who exhibit abusive behavior. If you find that people are constantly mistreating you, then this is your belief pattern. When you change the thought that attracts this behavior, it will stop.

We can change our attitudes toward the past. It's over and done and can't be changed. Yet we can change our thoughts about the past. How foolish for us to punish ourselves in the present moment because someone hurt us long ago.

If we choose to believe that we're helpless victims and that it's all hopeless, then the Universe will support us in that belief. Our worst opinions of ourselves will be confirmed.

If we choose to believe that we're responsible for our experiences, the good and the so-called bad, then we have the opportunity to outgrow the effects of the past. We can change. We can be free.

The road to freedom is through the doorway to forgiveness. We may not know how to forgive, and we may not want to forgive; but if we're willing to forgive, we may begin the healing process. It's imperative for our own healing that we release the past and forgive everyone.

I'm not saying that it's all right that someone behaved in a misguided way. However, we must be aware that the past is over. We only carry the hurt and the memory in our mind. This is what we want to let go of -- the pain we're continuing to cause ourselves because we won't forgive. Forgiveness means giving up, letting go. We understand our own pain so well, yet it's hard for most of us to understand the pain of someone who treated us badly. That person we need to forgive was also in pain. And they're only mirroring what we believed about ourselves. They were doing the best they could, given the knowledge, understanding, and awareness they possessed at the time.

When people come to me with a problem -- I don't care what it is -- poor health, lack of money, unfulfilling relationships, or stifled creativity -- there's only one thing that I ever work on, and that is loving the self.

I find that when we really love, accept, and approve of ourselves exactly as we are, everything in life flows. Joyous self-approval and self-acceptance in the here and now are the keys to positive change in every area of our lives.

To me, loving the self means never, ever criticizing ourselves for anything. Criticism locks us into the very pattern we're trying to change.

Try approving of yourself and see what happens. You've been criticizing yourself for years. Has it worked?

CHANGING THE WAY WE PRAY
by Michael Bonamassa, Sr.
(Editor/Publisher for Soul Soothers online)

Have you been praying for something, a healing of sorts, a better relationship, more joy in life, but you are not getting it? That's what this article is about today. It's about changing the way we pray ... it's about acknowledging our true power as unlimited multi- dimensional beings ... it's about trusting that the Law of Abundance means that we already have everything we need ... that there is a deeper truth where fundamental change is really made, and once we shift to this consciousness, then our outer world will fall naturally into place. The question that we must ask ourselves ... "Is it better to work on the level of 'effect', or on the level of the 'cause' where the effect is born?"

The answer to this question should be obvious to us, but we just don't seem to be aware that it is the 'effect' that most of us are addressing in life. For the purpose of brevity, I will use the desire to be healed of a particular illness or disease that one may have. How do we address illness from a causal level? We must address it toward the foundation of reality itself ... and the reality is that "radiant health" is one of our birthrights as part of the Law of Abundance ... and it is toward this foundation that we must turn to find our answer ... not the effect which is a particular illness or dis-ease.

Before reading Gregg Braden's "Walking Between The Worlds", I was faced with one physical problem after another. I understood the powers of visualization and how to move energy to overcome and heal these problems, yet, when a new one would occur, I still had to be reminded to use these same powers as I had done on my previous problems. Sounds silly, I know, but reality is born in the mind and then extends into the world of form, not the other way around. Radiant health, then, can only prevail when the fearful patterns that allow illness to exist are released, and this release must occur in the place where the conflict was born ... which is in the mind. If you are tired of the furniture in a particular room of your house, what sense would it make to move the furniture around? True, it may look different, but the real problem is the furniture which hasn't been addressed. In this case, it makes more sense to remove the furniture or replace it with new furniture that would fit the overall decor of the room.

Very simply, true wisdom is to address the problem where it really is, not where it seems to be. It is then that we will be inspired to act, but we will act from a new place ... from a wider and more enlightened perspective.

On yet another level, let's take 'peace' for example. To gain peace, we cannot respond to violence with more violence ... we must be the peace we wish to bring about. Mother Teresa was a great example of this. She did not run around the world filled with anger and clenched fists. She was in the space of compassion, and she extended that compassion to everyone she met. When a particular situation required immediate action, she did not hesitate to get off her knees and serve. And yet when she held a dying man or woman in her arms, her smile never faded. She was so focused on what she knew was there that she was not fooled by what seemed to be happening. She saw holiness everywhere she looked, and it was that holiness that was the foundation of her world.

Mother Teresa understood the difference between praying for peace to happen, and 'Praying Peace'. Her whole life was a prayer, but it was not confined to the traditional definition of the word. She did not look upon a world that required 'healing', but on a world that was already healed. And yet, her hands and her feet were in constant motion, for she realized that looking upon the 'real world' didn't mean denying someone's physical pain in our world of illusion. She often said, "Give everything, even when it hurts ... especially when it hurts, but don't lose sight of the vision of a God that heals every ill and brings 'good' to every mind."

Let's look at what her words actually meant! Let's begin by defining the more traditional form of prayer that most of us were taught ... that of asking for something that we believe we do not already have. This is called a 'prayer of petition', which begins with perceiving a particular lack, and then believing that there is a sort of Wal-Mart in the sky we call God who can give it to us. There are a number of problems with this kind of prayer. First, it establishes and maintains a kind of spiritual dependency that we can never fully transcend. It is also the ultimate act of separation ... the ego's need to be less than or separate from God. The idea that we are ONE with God is seen as blasphemy by some religions, but as long as we think this way we can never depart from the level of a servant ... never enter into true communion with the Divine essence which we are truly a part of. However, to do so we would then have to be responsible for what we create. So, we continually place limits upon ourselves.

We must change the way we pray to a way that is more conducive of the truth of who we really are ... unlimited multi-dimensional beings. There is actually a technology of prayer that corresponds with this ... one that has been practiced for thousands of years, but which was lost to the West over seventeen hundred years ago. It wasn't until Gregg Braden found through the teachings of ancient traditions that there was a very advanced understanding of the 'science of prayer' by these cultures ... a way of prayer that was much more advanced than our modern religions have taught us.

He found that to the ancients, prayer was much more than asking for what they wanted. They knew that the mental decisions they made were only one part of a whole system that activates the creative power of prayer. They believed that the mind is like a map. One can interpret the territory by reading the map, and can even determine the best route to take in order to arrive at a particular destination, but it cannot move the body to that destination. It needs help, like a car needs gas in it. Only then can the mind work with the vehicle, directing its path, and complete the journey.

In other words, a prayer that is centered only in the mind ends up being a very weak prayer. It has no gas, so to speak ... it is completely unable to move us to the ultimate fulfillment of our desires. Other elements are required in order to create the alchemical reaction that is the basis of the science that mystics from every tradition have mastered and taught for centuries.

These ancients, known as the Essenes in the Dead Sea scrolls that were hidden and found following World War II, developed a system of prayer that was more reliable and scientific than anything we have today. Gregg Braden sums up the basic principle upon which every other principle of prayer is built when he says, "We must become that which we seek." In other words, the way to enhance any experience is to vibrate at a similar frequency of that which we seek. In this sense, the word 'Pray' means 'to become, or to be like'. If we want to experience radiant health, we must become 'radiantly healthy'. In this way, we are experiencing ourselves as the source of prayer, rather than the beneficiary. The question is "Are we ready to harness this power that has always been ours today?"

This idea is so foreign to our conventional understanding of prayer that you may be lost at this point. However, think of it this way ... when we pray 'for' something to happen, then we are focusing on the fact that it is not already there ... a thought form of lower vibration. This is the way most of us were taught to pray. The two main words we place in our sub-conscious mind in this case are 'not there', and so this becomes the real prayer because our sub-conscious mind does not judge something as "good" or "bad", it merely accepts it for what it is. The sub-conscious mind then resonates with 'not-thereness', and therefore we are re-enforcing it not being there and are doing nothing to attract the state of being that we are seeking.

When we 'Pray Radiant Health', however, what we are really doing is feeling as if the radiant health we seek is already there. How? By seeing (visualizing) ourselves doing all the things that we could do when our physical body (our vehicle) did when it was functioning at its peak ... running, playing, jumping, hopping, lifting, throwing, etc., etc.. Then, having created the ‘map’, we must provide the "gas" to get us there, so to speak. We do this by our emotions (energy-in- motion) by 'feeling' that which we would feel in being able to do these things ... seeing ourselves jumping for joy, kicking up our heels, feeling the joy of having achieved our dreams. These emotions are the fuel to manifestation, and the more emotion we place into the prayer, the faster it will manifest.

We feel the completion of the prayer rather than the lack, and our sub- conscious mind responds accordingly. It begins to resonate with radiant health, drawing in the experience of radiant health, since this is what the conscious mind has focused on. The Native Americans understand this type of prayer; for when they pray for rain, for example, they see (visualize) being in the rain ... they visualize and feel being in rain. In doing this, they ‘feel’ themselves experiencing the rain … feeling the joy of seeing water in puddles all around them, wiggling their toes in the mud, feeling the rain pouring over them and the joy that accompanied this experience. The prayer is answered automatically because the sub-conscious mind has followed an established code, attracting the state that has already been 'felt' rather than the experience that has been resisted. This is why 'affirmations' work. We are placing into the sub-conscious mind that which is coming from the conscious mind ... that which we are focusing the conscious mind on.

There is one final step that’s important to take … the step of showing ‘gratitude’ for that which we have created. All it takes is ending the prayer with a simple “Thank you” … or better yet, more than one ‘thank you’. This is what is known as “counting our blessings”. Its part of the Law of Attraction … that which facilitates the Law of Cause and Effect, where “like attracts like’ and when we show gratitude, more of the same will be returned to us.

When we begin to realize that we are one with God and that no intermediary such as religion is required to experience our Divine inheritance, perhaps then our religions will let go of the old foundation of control through fear based dogma and replace it with one based on love. However, this is the greatest threat for fundamentalists who want religions to remain unchanged. Yet, the ancients spoke about a time when all this would change ... a time when the water would rise so high that the levy would finally break, flooding the whole valley with Light. Many believe that we have now entered that prophesied era when we at last begin to perceive ourselves as the unlimited multi-dimensional beings that we really are, and there are many signs that seem to affirm this theory.

Could it be that we are finally ready to realize our incredible power and use it to create a world based upon the laws of love rather than the rules of fear? Has the time arrived when we begin to consciously implement the most powerful force in the universe? My answer to that is "Yes". That is why there are more and more channelers receiving more and more messages on finding out 'who we really are' ... on Divine Creativity being one of our main birthrights as souls ... on energy and vibrations ... and on topics relating to the Natural Laws that govern the process of Life, like that of the movie "the SECRET" which deals with the Law of Attraction.

And yet, some of us may still find reasons for hanging back. It might be that, as individuals, we fear or are suspicious of our true power. Perhaps we once unleashed it in a fit of anger, and seeing its devastating effects, have foresworn its use. We may be afraid that we don't have the ability to use it without having our imperfections create unintended side effects. Will the experience of praying radiant health ... of becoming radiantly healthy and free of all dis-ease ... take us safely past this threshold so that suddenly, amazingly, we perceive ourselves as the pure unlimited multi-dimensional beings that we are? Only time will tell.

PEARLS OF WISDOM
from an interview with Shree Vishnu Dutt Shastri
shared by Marge DeVivo of www.babaji.net

Shastriji was called by Babaji of Herakhan the holiest man on the planet.

Question
How can the name of God be more powerful than the atomic bomb?

Answer
You all have greater knowledge than me. Despite this you ask this question. I shall try to answer it. It is true that the power of the Lord’s name is stronger than atomic power. Its energy only affects physical bodies, it can only destroy matter, but never the soul. If we continue to repeat God's name before we die, the soul will remain. It is only God's name that can liberate the soul. The power contained in it is so strong that even the biggest criminal by only once repeating God’s name lovingly will be saved. And this is the divine strength!

One day our body will have to be given up, it is bound to die. Thus, don't be attached to this form. No atom bomb or any other power will be able to stop the soul from reaching liberation. The name of God is our link to the Lord, and if we repeat his name, we are automatically linked to him. In contrast our link to our physical body is very weak. The day you are born, the seed of death is born too. A child may die after five days, or it may live one hundred years, but its death is certain. Death is predestined and preordained.

Great saints and philosophers never attached much importance to their physical bodies and all devotees who came to Baba never came for the fulfillment of worldly desires or of the body. It is for your spiritual upliftment that you have come here and you can be liberated by means of this link, by his grace, by your devotion.

The power of the Lord's name lies in the sound. In the Yoga Shastras, the sound has been described as the "Fourth Shastra". This fourth Shastra is so divine and energetic and so powerful that not even an atom bomb can destroy it. The strength of the sound is immense. And if the Lord's name is repeated with sincerity, with real sincerity from your heart, immense strength and power is derived from it. Always, the name of God should be uttered with full concentration. It is of no use repeating "Om namah Shivay" and simultaneously thinking about the kedgeree (Indian meal) that is being boiled or what is happening here and there.

As Babaji taught, if you really repeat God's name with devotion and full concentration, it has the power to destroy all the atomic bombs intended for killing. In the history of mankind - since the creation of the earth there have always been fights with the intention of killing off good. Even in the Vedas you will find the Gods fighting against the demons and vice versa, trying to kill the adversary. The good deeds of mankind are coming to an end and it is due to this fact that all these clashes are coming up.

Mankind has forgotten to repeat the name of God, and this can only give rise to misdeeds and bad Karma. If people everywhere in the world repeated the name of God with sincerity, the sound waves would carry all over, thus ending misguided efforts of destruction. This is what Babaji told us. Wherever you are and whatever you do, you should always remember the name of the Lord. Repeat the name of the Lord and this will save you from all possible destruction. Don't fear death, face it boldly and take rescue in the name of God who will save you. Man should not fear the atomic bomb but rather think about what he has been ordained to fulfill, about the duties he has been asked to perform. Repeat the name of God, do good Karma and ultimately this will help you.

As enemies continue to produce atom bombs in their factories, we also should go ahead to produce our weapons, repeating the name of God, in our factories and workshops. Our factories should not stop production but we should all unite against these threats. Continue to produce the name of God, for it is He who is the only saviour of mankind. Poison and nectar are equally available on this earth, and it is by God's grace alone that someone chooses nectar.

In Indian mythology there is a story about churning the ocean. When the ocean was churned jointly by the Gods and the demons, both nectar and poison emerged from the same source. The Gods chose the nectar and the poison was left to the demons. Although both parties had made the same effort in churning the ocean, the bhaktas (lovers of God), the devotees, received the nectar and the rest was left to the demons.

Question
Do saints exist that have reached immortality?

Answer
Yes, they reached immortality by the use of sun rays which enabled them to transform one body into another. These Yogis or immortals, were able to absorb the strength emanating from the sun and use it to gain immortality. If human beings would use this knowledge to get power from the sun, from within themselves they would become transformed like Bhartriji and other immortals.

Question
Please speak more about unity among Western and Eastern devotees.

Answer
From the beginning Shri Babaji attached much attention to this problem. There is no difference whatsoever between Western and Eastern people because there is only one humanity. All human beings have the same appearance and the same feelings. So there is no difference between them. Also, the three main passions: greed, anger and lust are the same in all human beings. There are politicians and religious leaders everywhere who maintain this division resulting from pure selfishness. Look at a room. If you divide it up it will look small, but if you remove the dividing parts it will be large and spacious again.

When great souls are born into this world they remove these separating obstacles and place a sense of unity into everybody's heart. The example is Haidakhan. Here people from the West and people from the East unite and get on well together. The feeling of being different has been removed. Consequently they work together like children of the same father. Everybody who stays in Haidakhan forgets everything except God. And life indeed is simple here. Babaji only wanted us to do Karma Yoga and to repeat the Mantra: "OM Namah Shivay". Consequently people learn to apply these principles here. Babaji used to say: "I have already accomplished 60 percent of my work." The remaining 40 percent are left for us and it is up to us to do it! So it is our duty to work day and night in order to finish the Karma that Babaji has left us.

Thousands and thousands of people of our association are repeating the name of God, and more and more people liking the sound of this Mantra start repeating it too. This is not at all a small process! How many rupees has the Indian Government spent on removing language difference within the country. Uncountable different languages and dialects are spoken in India, but Babaji, without spending a penny, makes people use the same language: Om Namah Shivay. The practice to repeat the name of the Lord is like a spark that lights candle after candle!

THE ART OF NOT BEING OFFENDED
By Dr. Jodi Prinzivalli

There is an ancient and well-kept secret to happiness which the Great Ones have known for centuries. They rarely talk about it, but they use it all the time, and it is fundamental to good mental health. This secret is called The Fine Art of Not Being Offended. In order to truly be a master of this art, one must be able to see that every statement, action and reaction of another human being is the sum result of their total life experience to date.

In other words, the majority of people in our world say and do what they do from their own set of fears, conclusions, defenses and attempts to survive. Most of it, even when aimed directly at us, has nothing to do with us. Usually, it has more to do with all the other times, and in particular the first few times, that this person experienced a similar situation, usually when they were young.

Yes, this is psychodynamic. But let’s face it, we live in a world where psychodynamics are what make the world go around. An individual who wishes to live successfully in the world as a spiritual person really needs to understand that psychology is as spiritual as prayer. In fact, the word psychology literally means the study of the soul.

All of that said, almost nothing is personal. Even with our closest loved ones, our beloved partners, our children and our friends. We are all swimming in the projections and filters of each other’s life experiences and often we are just the stand-ins, the chess pieces of life to which our loved ones have their own built-in reactions. This is not to dehumanize life or take away the intimacy from our relationships, but mainly for us to know that almost every time we get offended, we are actually just in a misunderstanding.

A true embodiment of this idea actually allows for more intimacy and less suffering throughout all of our relationships. When we know that we are just the one who happens to be standing in the right place at the right psychodynamic time for someone to say or do what they are doing—we don’t have to take life personally. If it weren’t us, it would likely be someone else.

This frees us to be a little more detached from the reactions of people around us. How often do we react to a statement of another by being offended rather than seeing that the other might actually be hurting? In fact, every time we get offended, it is actually an opportunity to extend kindness to one who may be suffering—even if they themselves do not appear that way on the surface. All anger, all acting out, all harshness, all criticism, is in truth a form of suffering. When we provide no Velcro for it to stick, something changes in the world. We do not even have to say a thing. In fact, it is usually better not to say a thing.

People who are suffering on the inside, but not showing it on the outside, are usually not keen on someone pointing out to them that they are suffering. We do not have to be our loved one’s therapist. We need only understand the situation and move on. In the least, we ourselves experience less suffering and at best, we have a chance to make the world a better place.

This is also not to be confused with allowing ourselves to be hurt, neglected or taken advantage of. True compassion does not allow harm to ourselves either. But when we know that nothing is personal, a magical thing happens. Many of the seeming abusers of the world start to leave our lives. Once we are conscious, so-called abuse can only happen if we believe what the other is saying. When we know nothing is personal, we also do not end up feeling abused. We can say, “Thank you for sharing,” and move on. We are not hooked by what another does or says, since we know it is not about us.

When we know that our inherent worth is not determined by what another says, does or believes, we can take the world a little less seriously. And if necessary, we can just walk away without creating more misery for ourselves or having to convince the other person that we are good and worthy people.

The great challenge of our world is to live a life of contentment, regardless of what other people do, say, think or believe. The fine art of not being offended is one of the many skills for being a practical mystic. Though it may take a lifetime of practice, it is truly one of the best kept secrets for living a happy life.

HEART OF CHRIST, HEAD OF BUDDHA, HAND OF GOD? 12house.com
From 7/8/07

"For behold, the Lord doth grant unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, yea, in wisdom, all that he seeth fit that they should have; therefore we see that the Lord doth counsel in wisdom, according to that which is just and true."
Alma 29:8

This world has had its share of great teachers. Two of the more prevalent have been Jesus of Nazareth, and Siddhartha Guatama, or more commonly known as, the Christ, and the Buddha. What has happened in the past, is people have forgotten that these individuals did go by the names of Jesus and Siddhartha. That they once walked the path that we all walk. The attainment of Christ, and that of a Buddha, was bestowed on them when they had earned it, when they aligned themselves with the will of the universe, and Spirit.

Let's look at the Christ first. Christ is a Greek word Christos, literally translating to "The Anointed One". In many schools of belief, it is thought Jesus became a Christ as he walked the path, and was not necessarily born into. While that point is debatable, it really does not matter. What matters is that he was one of the greatest examples of love incarnate in recorded history. One of my favorite pictures of Jesus is that of the Sacred Heart. It is a picture I am sure many of you are familiar with. It shows his heart on fire, with a crown of thorns adorning it. What I see here is a man, who even when persecuted by not just a few people, but an entire culture, was still an avatar of the Love of God. Even when crucified by the very people he came to teach these lessons to, some of his last words were "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luck 23:24). When I look at the person of Jesus, who became a Christ, I see an Avatar of Love.

So now we have the Buddha. A word derived from Sanskrit meaning "Awakened One". it is seen in the Pali Canon, a traditional Buddhist text, that Siddhartha attained the state of Buddha while meditating under the Bhodi tree after deep meditation. What I love about the story of Buddha, is it describes his own journey to enlightenment, and actually shows him fail multiple times in his search for that enlightenment. Born into royalty, and leading the life of a prince in his youth, he sought more then the sheltered life that he was accustomed to. It was when this curiosity peaked that he snuck away from his palace, and saw things he never knew existed. Mainly poverty, sickness, and death. And he believed that none of that was necessary. It did not have to be apart of life. And through his grand intellect and resolve, he attained the state of Buddha. A state of perpetual bliss, and an Avatar of Wisdom. "All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become." Sounds like the Wisdom of the Buddha was teaching "The Secret" for quite some time, no? ;-)

So here we have two great teachers, and prophets of Spirit. An avatar of Love, and Wisdom. Not that those were their exclusive qualities, they were just their prominent ones. So what can we learn from these great examples? Well...a ton really. But for immediate purposes, let's make this immediately applicable to our lives. The idea here is: "Live the heart of Christ, the head of Buddha, and be the hand of God" By being the hand of God, I mean being a living extension of Spirit. Walking in the wisdom of the Buddha, the Love of the Christ, and putting it into action, by being the hand of God. I know that may sound extreme, but part of our jobs here are to be representatives of God on Earth. Could you imagine how different this world would be if their were Buddha's and Christ's walking around in our midst? That may sound unrealistic, but they did not walk their path to show off. They did not attain these states of divine love and wisdom to tease us. They wanted us to do as they did, and be lights unto this world. Knowing about them isn't enough. Discussing teachers like this is not enough. Because in the end, the only thing that is going to bring this world into that time of peace and of love that we all want so badly, it can only be established by emulating these teachers. By becoming like them.

So pray on the heart of Christ. Meditate on the mind of Buddha. And be the hand of God. Is it easy? No. But nothing worth doing usually is. Do you have to become a Buddha or a Christ in order to set an example to the rest of the world? Definitely not. But using examples like this will make the path easier, both for the mind, and for the heart. And if you take the torch of Spirit, and aspire to a path of Love, you will better not only your life, but the very earth itself will be bettered by you.

On Earth as it is in Heaven,
