The most chilling accomplishment of American capitalist culture is that we have commodified our own consciousness.

Excerpt:

But, like children, the American public got bored with the subject of torture long ago, so we quit seeing the victims. Plenty of new evidence has been coming out for years since Lynndie's famous pics from Abu Ghraib. But the short American attention span, created by our rapid-fire media, says, "Move on to the next hologram please. Whoa! Stop the remote. Nice butt shot of Sarah Palin there!"

The result is that Americans cannot achieve the cathexis we need. Cathexis is the ground zero psychic and emotional attachment to the world that cannot be argued. It is "beyond ideological challenge, because it is called into existence affectively." Americans are conditioned to reject any affective attachment that does not have a happy ending. And in that, we remain mostly a nation of children. We never get to grow up.

So, we tell ourselves the Little Golden Book fairy tales -- that we are a great and compassionate people and that we are personally innocent of any of our government's horrific crimes abroad. Guiltless as individuals. And we do remain innocent, in a sense, as long as we cannot see beyond the media hologram.

But it is a terrible kind of self-inflicted innocence that can come to no good. We are a nation of latchkey kids babysat by an electronic hallucination, the national hologram.

This book has influenced uncountable people in striving for success in all aspects of lives. This book moves people emotionally and practically. Napoleon Hill studied the science of mastering the mind. I was listening to the CD`s of Earl Nightingale, to help me strengthen my trust and confidence to realize my dreams. So I made this summary to benefit all that enjoy our newsletter. I highly recommend to read this book over and over again, and also to listen to these CD΄s .

The book is based on the unchangeable truth:
Everything begins with an idea, or in other words: all starts in our mind. It is important to create a definiteness of our purpose and goals in life, because whatever we want, we will achieve. To realize our hopes and dreams we need a captain in control of our mind, because only a boat with a crew can reach the far harbors.

The 13 steps to riches

Riches are whatever you want, your desires, and your dreams. May it be money, or harmonious relationships or any kind of success.

1. DESIRE is the starting point of achievement, because whatever we can perceive, we can receive. We would not have the desire unless we were capable of reaching it.

We need a burning desire as the picture of what we want to become. Our desires, may they be conscious or unconscious, beautiful or painful, will become our created reality. So be loving to yourself, create the best of what you can imagine.

Do not annihilate desire – every human being without a goal is without motivation, no motive to act, May it be money, loving relationship or spiritual goals. Nothing is impossible to man or woman.

It is very crucial to have a definite goal. For example a certain amount of money.
But there is no such thing as something for nothing, so you need to determine what you want to give in return. Determine the definite date and definite plan how you will put it into action. Have a written statement and read this statement every day 2 times, in the morning and at night!

2. FAITH is the state of mind that might be created by affirmations. We can master our faith, and trust that we can achieve all of our desires.

Statement:
First: I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my definite purpose in life: therefore I demand of myself persistence, continuous action towards its attainment and I here and now promise to render such actions.

Second: I realize that the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality: therefore I will concentrate my thoughts for 30 minutes every day upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, therefore creating in my mind a clear mental picture:

“I am successful, loving, powerful, gentle, patient, prosperous, attractive, relaxed, active, playful, responsible, and sexy, leading a prosperous, loving healing organization in truth, simplicity and love.”

Third: I know through the principle of autosuggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining it: therefore I will devote 10 minutes daily to demand of myself the development of self-confidence: “I am capable, successful, confident in my power and the love and the support from All That Is.”

Fourth: I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief aim in life and I will never stop trying until I shall have developed sufficient self confidence for its attainment.

Fifth: I fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure unless built upon truth, justice, simplicity and love, therefore I will engage in no actions which do not benefit all whom it affects. I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me, because of my willingness to serve others. I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism by developing love for all humanity because I know that a negative attitude towards others can never bring me success. I will cause others to believe in me because I believe in them, and in myself. I will sign my name to this formula, commit it to memory, and repeat it aloud once a day with full faith that it will gradually influence my thoughts and actions so that I will become a self reliant and successful person.

Repeated conscious instructions lead to success!

3. AUTOSUGGESTION to the subconscious mind will help to put our plan into action: Concentrate on your burning desire.
1. Find a quite spot, maybe at night in bed and in the morning and repeat what you like to receive and tend to give in return and see yourself having accomplished it. Read your statement aloud.
2. See and feel this money (or goal) in our mind.

It helps having written instruction hanging at the mirror, so we can see them often.

4. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: learn all we can about what we do for a living and associate with other likeminded people.

5. IMAGINATION is the impulse for creation and its subsequent realization. it forms and shapes our desires, and we keep thinking and fine-tuning our goals.

6. ORGANIZED PLANNING is the transition for creating our desire into practical reality. To align our self with other hardworking honest people and join as a master mind group, think of what we have to offer in return for their service, meet 2x every week, and create perfect harmony with all members of our group. Napoleon Hill also names the qualities that a leader should possess, and also why they fail.

7. DECISION: The lack of decision and procrastination is the cause of failure. We need to reach our decision fast and change them slowly. Due to the inferior complex most people are easily discouraged through ridicule or discouragement, or uninformed opinion.

8. PERSISTENCE - we need to overcome weakness by persistence – keep going even if it seems impossible. It is a state of mind, knowing our definite purpose, and with strength, cooperation, willpower and habit we reach our goals.

9.THE POWER OF THE MASTER MIND GROUP
The power of the mastermind idea is associating with others, associating with likeminded people – we have more information available.

10. ENTHUSIASM - personal drive for the positive outcome, the support of wife or husband and sharing our success.

11. THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND is unimaginably powerful.
Hold a clear picture of what we want to accomplish, our desires, and know what we want and stay on track!

12. THE BRAIN - a marvelous force that we can use for our good
We have 1 billion cells to use. If we now use 5 % of our brain, what can we realize and accomplish if we would just use 10 % or even 50%? We do not know yet how powerful we truly are.

DIET SODAS LINKED TO HEALTH PROBLEMS

Daily Consumption of Diet Soda Linked to Metabolic Syndrome, Type 2 Diabetes

February 11, 2009 — Drinking diet soda at least daily is associated with significantly greater risks for select incident components of the metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) and type 2 diabetes, according to the results of an observational study reported in the January 16 Online First issue of Diabetes Care.

"Two longitudinal cohort studies have shown positive associations between diet soda consumption and incident MetSyn independent of baseline measures of adiposity," write Jennifer A. Nettleton, PhD, from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, and colleagues. "Replication of previously observed diet soda-MetSyn associations in a distinct cohort would bolster their credibility and provide further insight into the nature of the relationship. Previous studies have not addressed associations between diet soda and individual MetSyn components or risk of type 2 diabetes nor have they fully addressed potential longitudinal mediators of these relationships, i.e., changes in adiposity status."

The goal of this study was to evaluate associations between diet soda consumption and the risk for incident MetSyn, its components, and type 2 diabetes in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).

Initial evaluation was performed from 2000 to 2002, at which time baseline food frequency questionnaires measured diet soda consumption. Three follow-up evaluations were performed from 2002 to 2003, 2004 to 2005, and 2005 to 2007. Incident type 2 diabetes was defined as fasting glucose levels of more than 126 mg/dL, self-reported type 2 diabetes, or use of diabetes medication. National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel 3 criteria were used to define MetSyn and its components. After adjustment for demographic, lifestyle, and dietary confounders, hazard ratios (HRs) were estimated for type 2 diabetes, MetSyn, and MetSyn components.

Compared with participants who did not drink diet soda, those who drank diet soda at least daily had a 36% greater relative risk for incident MetSyn (HR, 1.36; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.11 - 1.66) and a 67% greater relative risk for incident type 2 diabetes (HR, 1.67; 95% CI, 1.27 - 2.20).

Of the individual components of MetSyn, only high waist circumference (men: = 102 cm; women: = 88 cm) and high fasting glucose levels (= 100 mg/dL) were prospectively associated with consumption of diet soda. Associations between diet soda intake and type 2 diabetes were independent of baseline measures of adiposity or changes in these measures. In contrast, associations between diet soda and MetSyn were not independent of these factors.

"Although these observational data cannot establish causality, consumption of diet soda at least daily was associated with significantly greater risks of select incident MetSyn components and type 2 diabetes," the study authors write.

Limitations of this study include observational design, precluding determination of causality; possible confounding by other dietary and lifestyle/behaviora l factors; and difficulties in estimating intake of diet soda or artificial sweetener.

"These results corroborate findings from the ARIC [Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities] and Framingham studies and show stronger adverse associations exist between diet soda and type 2 diabetes," the study authors conclude. "Diet soda consumption, either independently or in conjunction with other dietary and lifestyle behaviors, may lead to weight gain, impaired glucose control, and eventual diabetes."

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute supported this study. The study authors have disclosed no relevant financial relationships.

Clinical Context

Diet soda and other artificially sweetened beverages were originally considered "benign" because they contribute no calories and few nutrients to the diet. Previously reported links between intake of diet soda and MetSyn were therefore thought to result from residual confounding by other dietary, lifestyle, or demographic factors.

However, biological mechanisms possibly underlying these associations may be plausible, such as artificial sweeteners increasing the desire for and consumption of energy-dense foods or interfering with the ability to accurately estimate energy intake and remaining energy needs. Better understanding of these associations has important implications for nutritional counseling.

Study Highlights

* The objective of this study was to examine associations between intake of diet soda and the risk for incident MetSyn, its components, and type 2 diabetes in MESA , while considering the effect of multiple lifestyle confounders, including measures of baseline adiposity and changes in adiposity.
* MESA is a population-based study of 6814 white, black, Hispanic, and Chinese adults, aged 45 to 84 years.
* The primary goal of MESA is to assess the prevalence and course of subclinical cardiovascular disease.
* Baseline food frequency questionnaires administered from 2000 to 2002 measured consumption of diet soda.
* From 2002 to 2003, 2004 to 2005, and 2005 to 2007, participants had 3 follow-up examinations to determine the presence of incident type 2 diabetes, MetSyn, and/or its components.
* Incident type 2 diabetes was defined as a fasting glucose level of more than 126 mg/dL, self-reported type 2 diabetes, or use of diabetes medication.
* MetSyn and its components were defined by the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel 3 criteria.
* HRs were estimated for type 2 diabetes, MetSyn, and MetSyn components, after adjustment for demographic, lifestyle, and dietary confounders.

* Other limitations of the study include possible confounding by other dietary and lifestyle/behaviora l factors and difficulties in estimating intake of diet soda or artificial sweetener.

Pearls for Practice

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins :

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance ; growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14.. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.
